Abstract:
Dissatisfaction with capitalism abounds. This has prompted a search for radical solutions in Europe, the US and elsewhere in the world. Festering mistrust in business and a growing perceived gap between the haves and the have-nots have helped to fuel a particular feeling that “the system” is not working for those who have missed out or are missed out. In a 2018 survey, 45 per cent of Americans under twenty-nine described themselves as being positive about capitalism while 51 per cent said they were positive about socialism. According to the pollster Gallup, this represented a twelve point decline in young adults’ positive views about capitalism in just two years and a marked shift since 2010, when 68 per cent viewed it positively…
