Abstract: Dear David,Recently, I saw the longest queue I’ve ever seen outside a McDonald’s outlet. In the queue were schoolkids, teenagers with technicolour hair, office workers, mothers with young kids in tow and the odd retiree. I was wondering what the commotion was all about. I thought McDonald’s was giving away free hamburgers — it wasn’t. Maybe some celebrities were in town to sign autographs — no sign of that either. It turned out that the folks were queuing to buy a “limited edition” of a collectible pair of soft toys by the names of Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel. According to newspaper reports, there were long queues at almost every McDonald’s outlet that day. Apparently, many camped overnight to be first in line. They braved the rain, fought fatigue and even each other (yes, fights did break out in some outlets)…
