Chapter 2 in Building a Body of Knowledge in Construction Project Delivery, Procurement and Contracting, 2023, pp 12-38 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
Integrated Digital Delivery is a lifecycle approach that digitally integrates the entire construction value chain by implementing digital technologies. It has the potential to improve sustainability performances of construction projects and building operations through lean processes and reduction in wastes. However, the construction industry is known to be resistant toward technology adoption and the implementation rate of Integrated Digital Delivery remains at a nascent stage. Hence, to improve the sustainability performances of construction projects and building operations through Integrated Digital Delivery, this chapter will do the following: (i) introduce the concept and technologies of Integrated Digital Delivery; (ii) investigate the common obstacles faced by practitioners in adopting Integrated Digital Delivery; and (iii) propose feasible solutions to reap the benefits by increasing the implementation rate of Integrated Digital Delivery. The findings elaborated in this chapter are expected to provide a better understanding of the Integrated Digital Delivery approach, the overarching obstacles faced by industry practitioners, and the responding solutions so as to drive the adoption of integrated and collaborative project delivery approaches to facilitate the digital transformation of the construction industry.
