Abstract:
Salomon is a company that has succeeded in gaining a sustainable competitive advantage from its relationship with the user community of its products. It is a delicate relationship that has grown gradually and has required profound adjustments. This chapter describes how a user community is born and evolves. It shows the benefits that a company like Salomon gains from its relationship with this community, both in designing its products and in distributing them. It describes how Salomon structured its relationship with the community. And it brings out best practices as well as traps that should be avoided.
