Abstract: This chapter provides the motivation for the course and supporting documents that the lecturer and students will need to access. In preparing this chapter, I intentionally kept the structure I used for the syllabus of the course (offered in 2018 and 2020), with several modifications that allow easier understanding and use of the various components of the course.
