Abstract: To many, the view of the events leading up to and including the Great Depression presented here will appear to be novel. However, I want to reassure them that it is not. In fact, it can be found, explicitly or implicitly, in the writings of period scholars, in the writings of period analysts, in the press reports of period journalists, in the speeches of congressmen, and in the policies of presidents. Which begs the question, why then has it been absent from the literature on the Great Depression? Why has the wisdom and insights of these period writers been ignored?…
