Abstract:
Frankly, I haven’t given much thought to this question but I would say the tendency to keep churning, as you put it, is due to my insatiable sense of curiosity about the world. More specifically, I am drawn to developments in East Asia. All along, the interest has been both professional and personal. I guess this is in part why the learning has been sustainable and enjoyable. For instance, I always find myself reading intensely about the region even when it is not related to work. In fact, it is a form of leisure – like bedtime reading. For example, in pursuing my interest in the Korean Peninsula, I don’t just read about its general history and contemporary developments. I find myself highly interested in countless aspects such as Korean cinema and Korean literature as well. I also go into more obscure areas like the history of Korean jurisprudence and how Confucianism has evolved in the country since the start of the Chosun Dynasty in 1392…
