The Race Toward a Humane Economy

Craig S. Galbraith and Curt H. Stiles

Chapter 2 in Humane Entrepreneurship:Creating a New Economy, Venture by Venture, 2023, pp 11-20 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.

Abstract: A humane community is one that provides for its members a setting that is most suitable for the human being in the natural world. Nature itself is indifferent to the whims and foibles of the human being, presenting harsh realities and dangerous threats. It also provides humans with the potential to make a bountiful home and satisfying social relationships. A fully humane economy would be one in which humans work with nature’s bounty to nourish a healthy and fruitful community that would meet basic human needs, allow for human whims and foibles, invest in building a humane future, and assure the maintenance of the community into the future. To work within nature’s bounty is humane behavior, to live in accord with nature’s harsh realities is a humane life, and to build and maintain a fruitful community in face of nature’s dangerous threats and limitations is to make a humane economy.
