Abstract:
Yair was an outlier. He was an academic entrepreneur. He was trained in accounting, rose to the rank of captain in the Israeli Defense Force, and married his direct report Mira, the love of his life. We know him for his seminal PhD dissertation at Harvard Business School on the decision to internationalize. Yair’s seminal qualitative study was about the firm internal logic of appropriateness to internationalize and about reconciling the decision as the consequences reveal themselves. It is a rich example that preceded the formal development of the theory of the Logic of Appropriateness and of the Logic of Consequences by March and Olsen and others, which was still to come. Yair also made important contributions in other areas of IB, including the internationalization of state-owned enterprises and small and medium enterprise ecosystems, and was early to recognize the up-and-coming service-sector economy, generally with a strong contextual focus on his beloved underdeveloped home country economy.
