AbstractMost countries have experienced a major banking crisis during the last three decades, and no regions have gone unscathed. Emerging markets, transition economies, and developed countries have been hit. Currently, however, there are few crises now "hot" so we have the luxury to reflect on what has happened during the last three decades to draw lessons for policy reform: What, if anything, can be done to reduce the likelihood of a banking and financial crisis?
