Chapter 74 in Knowledge Management:Nurturing Culture, Innovation, and Technology, 2005, pp 703-704 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.

Abstract: AbstractKnowledge sharing has been widely recognized as a key factor contributing to teams' performance and success in project settings. Although the literature on knowledge sharing is rich and still evolving, personal factors that affect knowledge sharing among team members have not been explicitly addressed, especially in information systems (IS) teams. Based on organizational behavior, knowledge management, and IS literatures, this study hypothesizes that trust among team members, group cohesion, and group self-efficacy have positive effects on attitude toward knowledge sharing and perceived social loafing will have a negative effect on knowledge sharing. In turn, attitude toward knowledge sharing is hypothesized to have a direct effect on intention to share knowledge. Consistent with past studies, we expect the results to provide support for the hypothesized relationships. Practical and research implications can be drawn from this research and its results.
