Chapter 1 in Dynamic and Stochastic Approaches to the Environment and Economic Development, 2008, pp 1-38 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
AbstractWe begin by outlining some of the more salient issues in contemporary research at the interface of the environment and economic development. Next, we note that until very recently, environmental issues have largely been absent in the analyses of economic development. Fortunately, despite the past neglect of this field, there is now a burgeoning literature in this important field. Even so, we point out that there is still a dearth of theoretical research that uses dynamic and stochastic approaches to construct and analyze models of research questions at the intersection of the environment and economic development. Therefore, following this introductory chapter, the 12 chapters of this book show how dynamic and stochastic approaches can be used to effectively model and thereby shed valuable light on a whole host of hitherto largely unstudied research questions concerning the environment and economic development.
