Abstract:
AbstractThis paper discusses the following six key elements: (1) A quite general stochastic logic generalizes the usual FTA concept. A failure of the TOP-entity (the product in use) is mainly the logical-stochastic short-time consequence of changes in the state of the basic entities. (2) An exceptional rescue mechanism for failed gates enables modelling of simple dynamical features. This improves the practical applicability. (3) A model for deterministic relations between the TOP and the basic entities leads to the existence of two additional intermediate “wait states”. (4) The long-time statistical behaviour of each basic entity is modelled with the repair time distribution and a rather general failure point process. (5) A stochastic simulation along the time axis produces a logbook of all events in a chronological order. The effects of age, corrective and preventive maintenance on reliability, availability and maintenance costs are also taken into account. (6) Many examples are given of how the detailed data in the logbook can be used for calculation of figures, graphs, and tables. Along with the conceptual presentation we follow numerical results of a power generation unit which is our case example.
