Abstract:
AbstractIn this paper a new discrete event simulation model will be proposed for the analysis of patient flows in a hospital. The model has been developed as a part of a project funded by the Italian Ministry of Health and will be used by healthcare managers to study the effect of changes both in the population and in the organisation of the hospitals. One of the main characteristics of the model is the fact that patient flow into the hospital is split into several streams, each characterised by a specific diagnostic code (or DRG).
