Abstract:
Ardentec was founded by four former ITRI engineers who were key members of the Vanguard International Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (VIS) established in 1994. VIS was established to commercialize the state-of-art dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) technology developed by the ITRI. As a start-up, the VIS turned in substantial profits within only two years of operation. This led to a frenzy of new investments in DRAM manufacturing in Taiwan. However, in 1997, the world’s electronics market started to show a downward trend due to a supply-demand imbalance. Many international players started to bow out and the VIS’s corporate management decided to follow suit, leaving the field of DRAM for the dominance of Samsung from South Korea…
