Chapter 12 in Labour Economics and Public Policy:Managing the Labour Markets for Competitiveness, 2017, pp 177-194 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
In a competitive labour market, two persons with the same skills set and same utility function may receive different wages because of differences in race and gender. These differences are often attributed to labour market discrimination. In this chapter, we want to examine how economists analyze labour market discrimination. In particular, we want to distinguish four types of discrimination, namely employer discrimination, employee discrimination, customer discrimination and statistical discrimination.
