Technology Diffusion: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for Flow Simulation in Greenhouses

L. Pretorius, S. Kruger and S. J. Benade

Chapter 14 in Managing Technological Innovation:Tools and Methods, 2017, pp 367-387 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.

Abstract: Technology can be considered as the stock or inventory of knowledge, competencies and capacities that a firm has to compete effectively in the market place (Dorf and Byers, 2008; Nieto, 2004). Technology therefore forms part of the technology innovation process. In this sense, innovation (management) is more of a rate dependent entity whereas technology is a level or stock quantity. Technology is both an input as well as an output of the innovation process (Nieto, 2004). In this chapter, the essential body of knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) will be considered as a technology. It will also be illustrated in some sense how CFD can be used in the innovation process. CFD is sometimes also considered as a useful tool in the innovation process.
