Abstract:
As business environments become more volatile and digitized due to the development of digital technology, IT-enabled organizational transformation (ITOT) remains one of the signature issues for information systems research. Because of the complex and uncertain nature of ITOT, researchers pay attention to the development of dynamic capabilities that enable company response more effectively. However, the process of how organizations develop capabilities to achieve the ITOT still needs to be explored. Using dynamic capability as a theoretical lens, the case study inductively derived a process framework that identifies six key capabilities by adopting a dual-level analysis (strategic and operational levels) and offered clear guideposts on how these capabilities may be developed to realize ITOT. Our study benefits both academics and practitioners by contributing to cumulative theoretical developments and by providing practical insights.
