Abstract:
In the same way as international cooperation is important in transitioning towards a more sustainable planet, localised action through city governments is also crucial. As over half of the world’s population currently lives in cities, the way cities are designed and organised is key to promoting more sustainable societies. In cases where national governments are too slow to respond to climate change, city governments can enact laws to adapt to and mitigate its effects. They can act as experiments to test the efficacies of laws which, if successful, can be enacted at regional and national levels…
