Chapter 3 in Macroeconomic Analysis and Policy:A Systematic Approach, 2018, pp 37-59 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
The external sector of an economy comprises its economic relations with the rest of the world. The economy’s balance of payments (BOP) summarizes these interactions. Other important information can be found in tables detailing the economy’s external debt service payments and stock of external debt; the composition and direction of its external trade; and various measures of external competitiveness, including its nominal and real effective exchange rates (REER) opposite its trading partners.
