Abstract:
In this piece of work, I will try something I have never done before: write an emic account of Vietnamese culture and its impact on our relationship with Nature. An emic perspective, meaning the perspective of a person living within a culture, is one common approach used in anthropological and cultural research (Helfrich, 1999). The validity of the method rests on the premise that a person living within and having enculturated into their native culture has an insider’s knowledge and tends to understand their own way of living the best. However, the work will also draw on research by other Vietnamese and foreign authors.
