Chapter 4 in 2016 Annual Indices for Expatriates and Ordinary Residents on Cost of Living, Wages and Purchasing Power for World's Major Cities, 2018, pp 73-181 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
This section provides an overview of the latest Asia Competitiveness institute’s (ACI’s) Cost of Living Ranking for Expatriates in 103 world’s major cities. These results are based on 2014 data, which were the latest available at the time the research was conducted. We first describe the 25 top-ranked cities and 25 bottom-ranked cities. This is followed by a discussion which highlights notable region-specific observations about the ranking. We then zoom in to the top-five global financial centres, namely, London, New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Tokyo, assessing their relative expensiveness in five key consumption categories: Food & Non-alcoholic Beverages, Housing Rents & Utilities, Transport, Education and Health.
