Abstract: However, there are compelling grounds for government support for education and health care. In fact, as explained earlier, public education and health care are the best uses of tax payers’ money since they promote equality of opportunity — i.e. level the playing field for the poor. They reduce the income gap between the rich and the poor, and promote economic growth. This explains why governments around the world support and, in some cases, provide education and health care. But it is important to remember that the government too has finite resources, just like households or companies. After all, the amount of taxes paid by tax payers is finite. What this means is that the government has to make some tough choices when it comes to spending tax payers’ money, even on education and health care, the best use of tax payer’s money…
