Abstract: The theoretical section of our book consists of seven chapters and an appendix. This chapter introduces the reader to production models upon which the book is based. Together with the appendix, it reviews the basic production theoretical concepts used in modeling the ‘black box’ technology. This includes the three equivalent input, output and technology sets which transform inputs into outputs, both intended and unintended.
