AbstractAll political parties want to increase social welfare. Some of us pay particular attention to how the nation's total product (GNP) is distributed and there is a large amount of interest in the extent of differences in the levels of income and wealth. Others see social progress in terms of a size of a pie and are interested in making a pie grow so that there is more to distribute. Both issues are of importance, but this book is primarily concerned with how to increase the size of the pie, the amount of goods and services available to the population. Distributional issues are always present, but are subordinated in this book to the objective of increasing productivity and total output of the industrial sector…
