Abstract:
AbstractThe economic crisis of 2008/2009 was the crisis of the 3 Cs — credit, consumption and confidence. Let us examine each in detail. Over the few years prior to the crisis, financial institutions in several countries lent credit to consumers in an irresponsible manner, creating an artificial market. It was an era of financial leverage, financial strategy, and financial dominance. Several companies entered the market, building up very risky positions by paying salaries and dividends that were out of touch with reality while neglecting costs. This initial “festival” in the financial market eventually caused a severe “hangover”…
