Chapter Eight: Social Standards and the Working Force
Benoit Vermander
Chapter 8 in Corporate Social Responsibility in China:A Vision, an Assessment and a Blueprint, 2014, pp 143-177 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
The sense of CSR developed within an organization does not only apply to agents exterior to it. In fact, the employees of the corporation should be seen as its first stakeholders. It would be impossible to implement CSR toward consumers and the general public without first taking into account the well-being and sense of fulfillment of the persons working within the corporation. Textbooks on business ethics and CSR, when identifying issues internal to the organization, generally focus on the following issues: Downsizing and layoffs: employees' job security; Working conditions and employees' rights; Discrimination and affirmative action; and Women in the workplace.
