THE POLITICAL-SUPPORT APPROACH TO PROTECTION
Wilfred J. Ethier
Chapter 17 in The Floating World:Issues in International Trade Theory, 2014, pp 347-360 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
This paper offers a selective interpretation of the literature on the political-support component of the political economy of international trade policy. Much of this literature is characterized either by a discrepancy between what policymakers say they are doing and how the theory models their actions (the Cognitive Dissonance problem) or by a lack of a detailed microeconomic foundation (the Black Box problem).
