Abstract: One of the distinguishing patterns in export diversification concerns the life and death of trade flows. Countries with rapidly diversifying export portfolios seem to outperform countries that are diversifying more slowly—not in the number of new export flows that emerge, but rather in the survival rates of these new flows once they are introduced. Can low-income countries adopt policies that improve the chances of survival of new export flows and thereby boost exports?…
