People Movements and the ‘National Interest’
Glenn Withers ()
Chapter 12 in Australia's Trade, Investment and Security in the Asian Century, 2015, pp 187-200 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
In this chapter, the elusive nature of the ‘national interest’ is pursued and identified. The question of cross-border people movements is then put to the ‘national interest’ test. How do the global movements of people for purposes of migration match up with national criteria for the public interest? What is the relation to actual policies adopted in this area?
