Chapter 6 in Economic Crisis and Rule Reconstruction, 2016, pp 157-211 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.

Abstract: On September 17, 2011, thousands of demonstrators gathered in Manhattan in an attempt to occupy Wall Street. Some even brought their tents and threatened to prolong the protest. Some of the demonstrators asserted, “We launched this protest because we feel that there is a need for the US to change. Many people have lost their jobs, and are homeless. The entire country is hurt and those who have caused this have gone scot-free and remain aloof about our plight.” From then on, the “Occupy Wall Street” movement escalated rapidly, spreading across more than 120 cities in the US. Other cities, around the world, big and small, also got involved and participated. This series of protests reflected the citizens' resentment against those in the financial industry who only took care of themselves while others paid for their mistakes.
