Abstract:
This research analyzes the development of poultry farming in Russia, identifying five significant stages in its evolution: (1) backyard poultry farming – from the 10th century until the early 19th century; (2) communal poultry farming – covering the period from the early 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century (until 1914); (3) recovery and development following the First World War and the Civil Wars – from 1930 to 1941; (4) industrial poultry farming – from the 1950s to the 1990s; and (5) contemporary industrial poultry farming. The authors note that the Russian poultry industry has faced four destructive socio-political events throughout its development, the most recent being the reforms of the 1990s, which nearly devastated the sector. Recovery and gradual growth began only after 2010 due to government measures supporting the industry. Additionally, the authors observed that alongside the development of poultry farming during the studied period, there was an increase in consumer prices for poultry products. The authors attribute this to ongoing inflationary processes globally and within Russia.
