Abstract: Der stagnierende innenpolitische Versöhnungsprozess lähmte die Demokratisierung und Wirtschaftsentwicklung. Eyadéma versuchte, sein angeschlagenes internationales Ansehen durch verstärktes außenpolitisches Engagement zu kompensieren, was ihm teilweise auch gelang.
