Abstract:
Festival is when one’s own neglect is perceived as recreation. The Summer Breeze-festival has been taking place every August for over 25 years and now attracts tens of thousands of metal fans from all over the world to Dinkelsbühl, Germany, Bavaria, near Nuremberg. This article deals with these fans and their everyday life at the festival, but also takes a look at the festival itself and its structures. The article wants to provide a basic understanding of the target audience of a metal festival. In different methodological steps an attempt to approach the humid reality of the festival was made. For this purpose, qualitative and quantitative research methods, including interviews and field observations at the festival, as well as an online survery, were implemented. This article presents the central results and tries to make them fruitful for the festival management.
