Abstract: The book is a compiled work previously published by Abdullah Bin Nasser Al-Sadhan. It presents various issues concerning the relationship between waqf and society, its vital role through Islamic history, and the importance of reviving this role in Muslim society now and in the future. Chapter 1 is an introduction to the endowments as an institution in the Islamic system. Chapter 2 discusses the social effects of endowments through welfare services given to various categories, such as orphans, the elderly, etc.. Chapter 3 explains how to direct endowments to meet the needs of society. Chapter 4 presents a new type of endowment, called "The waqf of Time" which is directed to the youth. Chapter 5 presents problems of endowments of the two Holy Shrines outside the territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Chapter 6 reviews the manifestations and causes of the forced extinction of Waqf, due to different causes. Chapter 7 discusses the negative mental image of the endowments, as being negligent or confined in very narrow areas. Chapter 8 illustrates the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in awqaf; preserving the two Holy Shrines, caring for the legislative, supervisory and scientific aspects, and spreading waqf culture. The author has also dealt with some obstacles that the waqf faces, and he proposes some mechanisms to overcome these obstacles. يطرح كتاب "الأوقاف والمجتمع " لعبدالله بن ناصر السدحان ، قضايا متعددة عن العلاقة بين الوقف والمجتمع؛ إذ يوضح دور الوقف الحيوي عبر التاريخ الإسلامي، ويركز على أهمية إحياء هذا الدور في المجتمع الإسلامي حاضرًا ومستقبلاً. يتناول الفصل الأول مقدمة أساسية عن الأوقاف في النظام الإسلامي. ويستعرض الفصل الثاني الآثار الاجتماعية للأوقاف في مجالات الرعاية الاجتماعية لفئات متنوعة؛ كالأيتام والعجزة وغيرهم. ويوضح الفصل الثالث كيفية توجيه مصارف الأوقاف لتلبية احتياجات المجتمع. ويقدم الفصل الرابع نوعًا جديدًا من الأوقاف وهو "وقف الوقت" وهو موجه لفئة الشباب. ويستعرض الفصل الخامس مشكلات أوقاف الحرمين الشريفين خارج الأراضي السعودية، والتي ضاعت واندثرت في العالم الإسلامي. ويستعرض الفصل السادس مظاهر وأسباب الاندثار القسري للوقف، وهي مشكلة تَمُس عين الوقف التي تتعطل لأسباب مختلفة. ويناقش الفصل السابع الصورة الذهنية السلبية عن الأوقاف لدى قطاع عريض في المجتمع مثل الاعتقاد أنه مقتصر على مجالات دينية، أو أن الأوقاف مضرب الإهمال، أو حصرها في مجالات ضيقة جدًا. ويوضح الفصل الثامن والأخير جهود المملكة العربية السعودية في رعاية الأوقاف من ناحية العناية بالجانب التشريعي والإشرافي، ورعاية أوقاف الحرمين الشريفين وحمايتها، والعناية بالجانب العلمي ونشر الثقافة الوقفية، والعناية بالمكتبات الوقفية الخاصة والعامة. ويلاحظ في الكتاب أن المؤلف يستعرض معوقات الوقف ويقترح آليات وكيفية تفعيلها للتغلب على تلك المعوقات.
