Abstract:
This paper concerns the relations between agrarian frontier and land market in the captaincy of Rio de Janeiro from 1720 to 1780. Analyses some caracteristics of that market like size of land’s lots, his forms of transference and prices for four zones of captaincy: Recôncavo da Baía de Guanabara, Enseada de Angra dos Reis, Cabo Frio e Santo Antonio de Sá. Concludes that the mercantil forms of transference prevailed under of those connect to kinship through the Eighteenth century. Nevertheless, those mercantil forms doesn’t configures a capitalist market. The importance of personal relations to obtain acess to land’s lots shaped those transactions, as a Ancién Regime market. The main sources consulted for this study were records of purchases and sales, donation and inheritance.
