ESTIMATING CROP-SPECIFIC PRODUCTION GROWTH AND SOURCES IN CHINA

Abstract: This study uses aggregated provincial level data from 1979 to 2000 to estimate crop-specific production functions and identifies the sources of production growth for wheat, corn, soybean, rapeseeds, and cotton in China. The results show that fertilizer, pesticide, seeds, production specification, weather, and R&D are important determinants of crop yields. The land, fertilizer, and R&D are major contributors to production growth during the study period.
