UNBALANCED NESTED COMPONENT ERROR MODEL FOR ESTIMATING PEST DAMAGE FUNCTIONS

Juan Yang and Paul Mitchell ()

No 20002, 2004 Annual meeting, August 1-4, Denver, CO from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: A recently developed nested error component model for unbalanced panel data is used to estimate insect damage functions. The model estimates the separate random effects for location and year on the variability of yield loss and has smaller standard errors for the regression coefficient than the comparable OLS model.
