FARM PROGRAM PAYMENTS AND FARM SIZE

Joseph A. Atwood, Glenn A. Helmers and Saleem Shaik

No 19240, 2005 Annual meeting, July 24-27, Providence, RI from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: A simultaneously determined model for farm size and government payments along with the incorporation of a recursive impact of government payments and agricultural returns was used to examine farm size changes nationally and regionally. The results clearly demonstrated resource substitution influences, differences in the nonfarm economy, and agricultural returns in explaining farm size.
