Determining Returns to Storage: USDA Data versus Micro Level Data

Joni M. Klumpp, B Brorsen and Kim B. Anderson

No 19523, 2005 Annual meeting, July 24-27, Providence, RI from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: USDA data are commonly used to determine producers' returns to storage. Aggregating data may result in a loss of information, leading to underestimated returns. This study compares USDA and elevator data from Oklahoma to determine how much USDA data underestimates returns. Results indicate USDA data only slightly underestimate returns to storage.
