A New Approach to Small Area Crop Acreage Estimation

Harold F. Huddleston and Robert M. Ray

No 283862, 1976 Annual Meeting, August 15-18, State College, Pennsylvania from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: This research was undertaken to assess the practicalities of improving the accuracy of crop acreages using remote sensing data. In obtaining state estimates, small area estimates are made which are partitioned into county estimates. The accuracy of the small area estimates is significantly improved leading to useful county estimates.
