Estimating Equivalent Scales for Food Expenditures

Abstract:
The equivalent scales were estimated to show the effects of age, sex and household size upon food expenditures. The results indicate that the cost of feeding a child is about 70 percent that of feeding an adult and there are economies of household size in family food expenditures.
