Some Evidence of the Demand for Food Variety: A Case Study of Food Items

Abstract: The paper examines the corner solution in consumer demand analysis focusing on the relationship between the number of food commodities purchased and total food expenditures. Empirical results provide evidence that the number of commodities purchased both in aggregate and in specific commodity groups increases with total food expenditures, and indirectly supports the assertion that more variety is associated with greater utility.
