ON AGGREGATE NOTIONS OF SHEPHARD'S AND HOTELLING'S LEMMAS

Don Blayney and Ron C. Mittlehammer

No 278075, 1986 Annual Meeting, July 27-30, Reno, Nevada from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: Duality theory forms the basis of many recent analyses of aggregate economic relationships, despite the fact that the theory was conceived in the context of firm-level behavior. This paper explores notions of aggregate, cost and profit functions that lead to aggregate analogs of Shephard's and Hotelling's lemmas.
