Efficient Set Mathematics, the Separation Theorem, and Farm Operating Decisions

Calum Greig Turvey, John W. Kimble and Timothy Baker ()

No 270094, 1987 Annual Meeting, August 2-5, East Lansing, Michigan from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: Efficient set mathematics is used to derive simple formulae for E-V efficient portfolio selection in agriculture. These formulae are used to illustrate the separation theorem when riskless cash rented land is combined with a farm portfolio. A simple example utilizing the formulae and illustrating the separation theorem is presented.
