Nonparametric and Parametric Analyses of Demand for Food at Home and Away from Home

Wen S. Chern and Hwang Jaw Lee

No 270706, 1989 Annual Meeting, July 30-August 2, Baton Rouge, Louisiana from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: Nonparametric tests show that food at home and food away from home can be appropriately included as separate groups or a combined group in a complete demand system for the first stage budgeting. However, the estimated gross and compensated price elasticities are sensitive to alternative groupings of expenditure categories.
