Testing the Translog and Almost Ideal Specifications in Demand Systems

Abstract: Using Lewbel' s framework, a demand system that nests both the almost ideal demand system and the translog demand system is estimated for United States meat consumption. Each special case is rejected. The implications of alternative specifications are then explored.
