CONSISTENT COMPARATIVE STATICS FOR THE FOOD INDUSTRIES

Garth J. Holloway

No 271418, 1994 Annual Meeting, August 7-10, San Diego, California from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: Consistent conjectures are derived in an oligopoly model with homogeneous products and I identical firms. The exercise uncovers two important findings: Absent entry, the monopolistic conjecture is the unique consistent conjecture. With endogenous entry, no consistent conjecture exists. These results provide foundations for deriving consistent comparative statics for the food industries.
