Abstract: The economic development of South Korea is often held up as a model to be followed by many developing countries. We use 1975 and 1990 data in a general equilibrium framework with highly disaggregated agricultural sector specification to evaluate the opportunity cost of agricultural protection. We show that for Korea the cost of protection increases with the level of economic development.
