Canadian Agriculture and the Doha Development Agenda: The Challenges

James Rude and Karl Meilke

No 24157, Working Papers from Canadian Agricultural Trade Policy Research Network

Abstract: The WTO Framework Agreement negotiators accepted in July 2004 provides a guide to the commitments a Doha Development Agenda agreement may contain. These commitments will involve direct and indirect export subsidies, domestic support and market access. Commitments in each of these areas will have implications for Canadian agriculture. This paper explores these implications for supply management, the Canadian Wheat Board and domestic support programs.
